Job Overview

Our Client is seeking a skilled Project Manager in the fire Prevention industry. The role focuses on planning and managing the implementation of projects, ensuring profitability, operational compliance, and client satisfaction within the built environment. The successful candidate will oversee project execution, coordinate resources, and support sales efforts by identifying opportunities, delivering high-quality fire protection projects across multiple sites. Ideal candidates are experienced professionals with a strong background in project management, preferably in fire protection, who excel in leadership and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan projects by reviewing proposals and service delivery requirements, identifying human resources, service providers, and materials, and drafting plans with key deliverables and timelines.
  • Finalize project plans by aligning with operations teams, engaging delivery teams, and communicating deliverables, timelines, and service level requirements.
  • Develop detailed project plans, defining activities, timelines, sequencing, dependencies, and resource needs, and confirming plans with service providers and supply chain teams.
  • Appoint service providers by identifying required skills, reviewing and selecting appropriate providers, providing input into contracts, and approving agreements.
  • Manage project delivery by monitoring progress, identifying risks, delays, or concerns, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring weekly alignment with project goals.
  • Mitigate project risks through problem-solving, supervising corrective actions, and assessing risk resolution outcomes.
  • Oversee project administration, maintaining accurate files, site visit notes, and contractual documentation, and monitoring corrective actions.
  • Prepare for industry-standard inspections (e.g., ASIB) by confirming dates, providing documentation, attending inspections, and addressing report items within deadlines.
  • Handover projects by commissioning systems, conducting tests, providing manuals, securing client sign-off, and supplying documentation for internal and client use.
  • Prepare project budgets by reviewing quotations, designs, and scope, developing budgets, and submitting for approval.
  • Manage project budgets by tracking expenditure, identifying savings or over-expenditure, and implementing corrective actions monthly.
  • Ensure project profitability by monitoring spend and time against budgets, addressing challenges, and maintaining profitability targets.
  • Generate client claims by assessing work progress, communicating invoicing details, and submitting claims for invoicing.
  • Process supplier payment valuations by verifying completed work, agreeing valuations with subcontractors, and submitting for payment.
  • Manage occupational safety, health, environmental, and operational compliance by monitoring standards, addressing non-compliance, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Train service providers on compliance requirements, delivering training content and addressing skills gaps.
  • Support sales and marketing by engaging clients, providing technical input for proposals, and identifying new opportunities.
  • Report on project performance by analyzing data, identifying trends, and submitting reports monthly.
  • Report on financial performance by tracking spend and profitability, analyzing trends, and submitting reports monthly.
  • Evaluate subcontractor performance by collecting data, identifying patterns, and submitting reports for action.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: An NQF 6 qualification in Project Management within the built environment is required. Extensive experience (3-5 years) may be considered in lieu of a relevant qualification.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of project management experience in built environment projects is required, with preference for experience in the fire protection industry.
  • Availability: Must be flexible to work evenings or weekends for project deadlines, site visits, or client meetings, and travel as needed.
  • Restrictions: Candidates must have no restriction of trade.

  • Strong financial acumen for budget tracking and profitability analysis.

  • Ensure zero non-compliance issues during safety and industry inspections.

Working Hours

  • Standard Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00
  • Additional Hours: Occasional evenings and weekends for site visits, client meetings, or project deadlines, with travel as required.
